The dawn of advanced technology is upon us, making our
lives simpler with each and every progression. The
phenomenal power of the World Wide Web allows us to leap
across oceans and continents in a few seconds. Laptops
let us roam free without worrying about power cords to keep
us grounded. Similarly, wireless technology has enabled
individuals to totally free from wires while simultaneously
accessing the World Wide Web. Wireless internet capability
has been one of the most convenient factors in allowing
individuals to work, learn, or play on laptops wherever
they may go.
You can also use wireless internet from many public places,
shops and restaurants these days. Once you have the right
equipment, you will be able to access the internet from your
local public library or even the corner coffee shop without
the need to plug in any wires. Most people who have this
facility carry their laptops everywhere they go so they can
hook up to the wireless internet from anywhere. This
openness of use of the wireless internet naturally leads to
issues regarding its security.
If you have not taken the measures to protect your computer,
accessing the wireless internet may lead to a bevy of
security problems. Hackers can easily get into wireless
networks and may be able to access all your personal
information. It would be frightening if someone got hold of
your credit card, bank accounts or social security numbers
and abused this information. To prevent identity theft and
other security issues, protect your computer and thereby,
yourself by taking the necessary security measures. Install
a firewall program that can prevent unauthorized people from
accessing your computer.
If you have a wireless network set up in your home, you
will also want to take measures to secure your personal
network. Use security features including passwords and
network identification numbers to ensure your network are
only accessed by authorized persons. If you live in close
proximity to other individuals with wireless internet, this
is especially important. Wireless internet can be
intercepted by nearby networks, similar to the manner in
which a cordless phone can tapped into by a nearby unit.
This process is not difficult, but may save you a great
deal of time and trouble in the future.
Whatever measures you decide to take in order to protect
your computer, your network, and yourself, make sure you do
so immediately before accessing a wireless Internet network.
Another thing you have to be careful about is not to access
bank accounts, credit card accounts, or any other sites
needing personal information, when using a wireless Internet
network. You cannot afford to take such a great risk even if
you have the security measures in place.
